If you’re going to take a picture and strip away its colours, you must be ready to build up the fantasy using a different kind of foundation. In photography, the combination of black and white has it all: it conveys emotion, it disguises the passage of time, it brings every thought together, aligning the different realities into a perfect chronicle. If atemporality would ever need explaining, Jorge Cal’s photo shoot would make for an accurate illustration.
Starring a beautiful Andra Toth, the photo shoot plays upon the female dandysm, mixing up simplicity with delicacy, only to be topped off by a tailored kind of sensuality. It may be the slim-cut jacket laid against the bare skin, the basic suspenders adding contrasts to some easy, flowing blouses, a chic hat or perhaps the divergent embellishments, but although masculine at their very core, every single one of the items ends up highlighting the femininity.
