Photographer Marco D’Amico brings to life an electric portrayal of modern attire and feminine beauty in his shoot ‘The Ancestral Lake’. One can’t help but feel that this fashionable rendering is grasping at some sort of modern, repressive looking future form of self.

A team of fashion professionals break through the barrier of a conventional shoot with this adaptation and raise the bar in terms of representing beauty, mode and style in ways which are both encapsulating and distinct. The use of platinum choker jewelry, the lack of any bright or differentiating colour, as well as the more than noticeable head net that is securing the hair, is an imminent present style proposing the notions of repression and robotic uniformity. Whereas, the clothing itself actually inspires a somewhat soft and free repose. The repeated use of cotton and wool that fits the female form so beautifully brings up the feelings of insouciance and nonchalance, whereas spots of metallic sheening, hard dresses yet again flicker the futuristic mood.

Lightning is a natural stimulant, it is one of nature’s most exciting and powerful forces of illumination, and has the ability to stop and awe. Traditionally the symbolic representation behind the lighting bolt is one of a loss of ignorance; someone coming into knowledge and thought. A new manner of thinking. The connection of the lighting bolt and futuristic garb again provokes those thoughts of a uniform society, oppressed in their knowledge and unable to express those inner thoughts they may think.

Born into the humble town of Franschhoek, South Africa it was little wonder that Chevaun Roux would find her flavour in life through good food, good wine and stylish apparel. After completing a Bacherlors Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics the world of freelance writing became the first choice in occupation, with no regrets and having never looked back. With a zest for anything with colour, vibrance and essence she found herself diving further into the world of fashion and design; from thifting vintage wedding dresses to pouring through new and modern jewelry pieces. This self anointed bohemian indentity believes in all the partisan revolutionary ideals of love, beauty and freedom, and when she isn’t writing or editing you can find her at the kitchens helm creating her latest milkshake masterpiece.
