If there’s one thing the world has come to expect from Aurelio Costarella it’s show-stopping eveningwear. Did he deliver with his RAFW (Australian fashion week) show? You bet. If sparkling, ruffling, no-holds-barred glamour is your thing, then Costarella is your man.
For Spring 2010, some of his dresses were Gothed up with corset-style leather bodices. There were open backs and beaded cross-body sashes, and tiers of flower-like frills. The true standouts were sequinned paillette dresses paired with snug fur wraps, evoking the essence of vintage-meets-modern glamour; but then again, the intensely ruffled floor-length gowns were pretty well striking too. The show ended in a shower of silver confetti signalling another well-received presentation from one of Australia’s kings of the red-carpet gown.
