Word of Azealia Banks’ September 2012 Dazed & Confused cover being banned in 7 countries had already spread across the internet before the cover itself had. Now the cover has availed itself, and we get to see what all the fuss is about.

The meaning of what’s considered ‘controversial’ is somewhat subjective. It’s also largely defined by the who: a wholesome teen idol doing the same might not be a risk worth taking, but for the kind of celebrity who banks shock-factor and controversy like cheques, it’s much more likely to happen – and be accepted. Still, putting an image of a condom-in-mouth on shelves where young people shop was always going to cause a fuss. And that’s probably what Dazed were banking for.
What do you think? Controversial or fuss over nothing?
The cover was shot by Sharif Hamza.
