Peep behind the curtain of a fashion week and what you’ll see depends on who you are. To some it may appear a horrifying jumble of clothes and lights and hairspray and limbs. Others see the hard work that makes the shows a reality. And then there are those whose eyes and lenses single out the personality, the comradeship, the solitude and the calm. As Creative Director over ModaLisboa‘s promotional campaigns, Pedro C. Ferreira is usually charged with dreaming up ideas and turning creative concepts into a reality; but when the shows begin he prefers to slide anonymously into the shadows in order to capture what goes on backstage from his own perspective.
Shooting on a Leica M9, Ferreira’s backstage images are candid moments rather than posed portraits. At the gallery you can find more, including some shots of models reading. Ferreira has been collecting these literary moments for several seasons now – but that’s a project to share another day.
