The trans-seasonal maxi

Colourful prints used to only be worn during the summer months but, increasingly, more and more of us, designers included, have started incorporating prints into our autumn / winter wardrobes. And we shan’t complain – anything that brightens the mood of a dull and gloomy is likely to get our vote.

Traditionally the domain of sea side resorts, a maxi dress in the right weight can be perfect for autumn days. And the subtle colours and luxe styling of this look from Paris fashion week do much to prove it.

It’s street style blogger Peony Lim wearing a cashew fruit print maxi dress (thank you to commenter Michelle for the correction) in this look. And she rounds out the maxi with a white jacket, nude pointed pumps and an Hermès Birkin bag. Here the accessories are so simple and are in muted colours as to not steal spotlight from the maxi dress.

Vegetable prints were brought to the fore by Dolce & Gabbana’s spring 2012 collection and it’s nice to see them continuing to make an appearance on the street.
