As Fred Ebb penned, if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere. But frankly, making it in the City of Angels has always seemed much tougher. In New York you can hustle, in LA you’re more likely to benefit from having been blessed with a nice set of genes. What else could explain just how many carbon-copy women inhabit the city’s gossip rags? Or just how many of the same pages feature men with ridiculously well-set jaws?

You could call it the Hollywood look. At another time you’d have called it a movie star quality, but movie stars looks are now more disparate than ever. Amongst an urban landscape and selectively placed palms it’s not a look that’s LA noir, but a look straight out of the post-Drive world in which we live.
