Fantasy but not magic: Carey Mulligan for Vogue US

These kind of theatrical, grandiose shoot concepts seem to often be reserved for the pages of US Vogue and the creative eye of Grace Coddington. Despite having amazing gowns and opulent 1920s styling, the star power of Carey Mulligan, and the lens of Mario Testino, this one somehow falls a little flat and feels a little too staged.

You’d think a better cover shot could have been chosen from the images available inside the pages. Grace Coddington’s styling certainly brings the beautiful, excessive details to the mix but somehow it feels like the magic is missing from parts of it.

Perhaps that’s going to be a cricitisim of the new Great Gatsby in general? We’ll find out when the film is released in May.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
