We hear stories, tales: this is the year the world ends. We don’t want to believe the stories, and at our core we’re like a youth driving too fast and recklessly, believing in our own immortality. Surely, it’ll never happen to us.

But we’re quietly fascinated. What if our calendars really do run out in 2012? Indulging in the theme, photographer Lorent Korstar (kostarprod.com) asked the question, what would be left on earth?

In his vision it’s a single woman. A dark Athena, aptly named after the Goddess of courage, justice, war and wisdom. Each backdrop represents one of the elements that rages against her: water, earth, fire and air. Assisted by Oanell Terrier and fearlessly styled by Aurore Donguy, the shoot draws inspiration from the world of film – The Fifth Element, Star Wars, Gladiator, The Book of Eli – and is itself cinematic.

Awa Ceesay is the sole survivor who fights. With hair by Jonathan Dadoun and makeup by Agathe Pons, you can view the full shoot by clicking on the thumbnails and perusing the gallery.
