Wherever Ekaterina Belinskaya found a backdrop like this one, I know not. But of the medieval stocks, the stone church, the crumbling prison and rope-bound fences, she made perfect use. Belinskaya’s The Lost Kingdom is reigned over by a solitary Queen, darkly beautiful but perhaps just a shadow; the haunting ghost of a vision keeping watch over her now unpopulated, deserted city. The romantically Gothic clothing by designer Maria Daranova provides this monarch’s bleak yet beautiful wardrobe; her piercing eyes highlighted by makeup artist Helen Kaddaha, her cobwebbed hair styled by Helen Kaddaha.
Each of Belinskaya’s shots is a striking piece of imagery, but none so much as where a cloak of raven feathers blends with an imposing black bird, a dark harbinger, perhaps, to the isolation of this gothic Queen’s world.
