Fall marked the rise of gothic fashion as a trend. This trend embraced black and the darkness it represents. Though the appeal of the color black can be attributed to the romanticism of all things Gothic, it is and will always be a color that anyone can wear.
For this shoot entitled “Magdalena” by Arkadiusz Mafiku Szczudlo, we see black and the gothic trend interpreted in different ways. This photo shoot is what you might refer to as pretty goth. Not all dark but largely soft and feminine, it has elements that are light: the color white is worn with black in some shots and the background sometimes contrasts the bleak aesthetic. While contrasting elements can cause problems, they worked really well in this shoot.
The model, Magdalena Gosiewska, is not only beautiful but she gave justice to the styling by owning each look. She managed to look strong yet still very feminine. She was able to bring a balance between two contrasting concepts, just like how the dark color of black is mixed with light weight fabrics or sheer fabrics that are commonly seen in spring.
This photo shoot is an epitome of how one can be glamorous in a color that we know well. It is a shoot that shows us that mixing different and sometimes opposing elements does wonders.
