There is simply no arguing that actress Dawn Olivieri’s star is on the rise. In the past years, Olivieri has blessed the small screen with her distinctive blend of raw energy and tantalizing magnetism. From Heroes to True Blood, Olivieri’s repertoire continues to impress. Now in her second season as Don Cheadle’s onscreen ex-wife on House of Lies, Olivieri is more captivating than ever.
When it comes to starring in the editorial, The Art of Being Alone, shot and styled by the SayHelloMax team, the ever-emotive Olivieri holds nothing back and falls into perfect sync with SayHelloMax photographer Elsa Kawai’s narrative style. Today, Olivieri takes three minutes to let us peer into her mind.
What is your occupation?
I play make-believe for a living.
What would be your spirit animal?
A black panther. I’ve dreamt of him–he’s a bit cheeky.
What do you daydream about most?
What complete connectedness would feel like.
Can what you wear change how you are as a person?
Absolutely. It’s an integral part of creating a character for me. And no woman can deny the electricity that courses through a pair of stilettos beneath a power suit.
What is the one thing that has inspired you most?
Adventure inspires me. Especially when foreign landscapes supply the backdrop.
Clan of the Cave Bear. It was the first book that invited me to cry while I read. I saw it as a fascinating power.
The Last Unicorn. When I was a little girl, I would rent this movie and watch it over and over and over again.
The blues. Singing it makes me want to start a band.
Do you have a personal philosophy?
Chase after knowledge. Befriend your own truth. Trust that there is a grand design.
If you could have any other career, what would it be?
It would be something that puts me out in the middle of a meadow somewhere, far away from the trappings of a superficial society. I guess I would be a tiny little fairy.
If you could live anywhere else, where would it be?
I would love a stint as a nomad, maybe, and just wander from place to place.
Where is your favorite place to go in LA?
What is the single most precious item that you own?
I have this sliver of a meteorite that I had made into a ring. It blows my mind when I contemplate that it traveled through the universe. I often laugh at the notion that I “own” it–it has intentions of its own.
Tell me a secret.
We come from stars (shhh…tell everyone).
