There’s only so much you can do in the heat of high-summer in the south if France. Sun by the pool, read a book while sunning by the pool, swim in said pool, or, to really mix things up, frolic at a nearby beach. I love water, I love swimming, but such repidity bores me stiff. So while spending part of my summer in St Tropez, I put down the book (a borrowed copy of Bukowski’s Pulp) and picked up a camera. The beauty on hand was Doina Ciobanu‘s, the fashion, samples from Jessica Choay‘s spring 2014 collection.
And then I got in the pool.
It’s hard not to want to be water-immersed in St Tropez. That’s true even of those moments when a single misstep threatens to bring the life of the Canon 5D Mark III you’re holding to an abrupt and watery end.
The risk was outweighed by the opportunity to photograph, in such beautiful surrounds, designs otherwise unseen. Plus it gave me the opportunity to get precisely what I need from any summer holiday – relief by water alongside something engaging to do. Active holidays are my thing. I’m saving the poolside lolling for when I’m old and grey.
