Could there be a more perfect backdrop for a menswear shoot – a menswear shoot that celebrates sartorial elegance and dapper details – than Melbourne’s own Double Monk? The Fitzroy shoe store is about more than merely shodding feet: it’s about purveying a particular lifestyle that appeals to a particular type of gent (it’s equipped with a well stocked bar, after all).
And that gent is one who knows the menswear rules and traditions so well, he’s fully equipped to break them. Gracefully. He knows how to make his whole look simultaneously classic and modern. He’ll wear a button-down collar with a tie, mismatched pants and vest, a rain jacket under a blazer. As long as everything is immaculate quality and a perfect fit, he can work pretty much whatever he wants.
Jessie Obialor’s models Tom & Dane do, in her shoot Double Monk, shot at – you guessed it – Double Monk, and featuring a selection of men’s footwear from the store. The styling by Kate Carnegie is bold yet dapper; inspiration for the modern sartorially obsessed male.
With slicked back hair by Maria Gullace and a little guidance from makeup artist Livia Milazzo, the boys couldn’t look sharper. View the full shoot by Jessie Obialor (jessieobialor.com) by clicking on the gallery.
