While Queen Elizabeth I of England and the latter part of her reign have put forward plenty of inspiration for all those who dared seek for it in her fabulous world, few knew where to draw the line between historical truth and fiction, without turning the results into another Elizabethan cliche. Photographer Denny Tjan sought The Golden Age for inspiration, with the accent falling hard on the decay of the empire.
Model Marika Marienka pursued a perfect balance in portraying Elizabeth’s strength and sorrow in a time of despair, with the fashion fantasy set as a new empire was about to take over. Paying homage to Elizabeth’s unparalleled character, celebrating her grace and her distinction, the photo shoot makes use of a dark setting only to enhance the feeling of hopelessness and to accent its mythical quality.
Featuring a clean color palette of rusty gold, white and black, the photo shoot captures the inescapable transition between the Golden Age and the Dark Era. With Chrisna Sujatmiko responsible for hair, make-up and styling and a wardrobe signed exclusively by Riana Budiono, “The Fallen Throne” is a pure vision of the past refined through a modern vision.
