Bar for the prevalence of monochromatic tones and an unapologetic sensuality, there may not be much about Friend Of Mine’s spring 2012 look book that calls to mind Helmut Newton. But Newton was one of the forces inspiring the collection. And it does make sense, for this is a collection that channels the Newton woman of the ’70s and ’80s: empowered, feminine, yet always hinting at a masculine side.
The collection’s look book plays to the simplicity of the pieces, juxtaposed by the daring of accessories. Feathered belts and leather harnesses add interest to soft leather or tailored pieces. The cuts, too, play with loose and fitted to deliberately hide and reveal.
