Fashion photography in the 1960s was all about bubbling youth culture and the changing face of women’s fashion. Women weren’t just capable of showing off their waists, but were also proving to be the main subject of the camera lens. Just as in this photo of Jane Birkin taken in 1965.

In this striking pose with husband and music composer, John Barry, she epitomises glamour and confident style. The straight-cut sheath dress embellished with sequins gives the perfect ’60s silhouette. So chic that you almost glance past the presence of a handsome man beside her. She earned the status of a beauty icon, truly confirmed with the curtain fringe hairstyle and layered mascara on the lower lash.

Shitika Anand is a freelance journalist, based in Sydney, who is addicted to coffee, vintage boutiques, bright-glitzy earringsĀ and British stand-up comedy. Her bank account weeps every time she walks out of a shoe shop, but her shoe rack throws a 'welcome home' party for the new member. Her undying love for words is obvious when she narrates her entire life story to a stranger on the train. Which is partly the reason she's resorted to writing. When not blogging, she can be foundĀ in a corner of her nearest bookshop, hiding under a monstrous pile of international fashion magazines.
