Fashion and acting are not at all dissimilar; in fact you might say the two are inextricably linked. Fashion helps create a persona, a character, and that’s true for all of us whether we’re models or actors, funfare ride attendants or dental clinic receptionists. So for South African born actress Jena Dover slipping into the role of a sexy BDSM mistress wasn’t just acceptable, it was a challenge to be embraced.
The resulting photoshoot by Steve Marais features as the cover shoot for issue 2 of Gaschette Magazine. Fitting, given the issue is all about sex.
And Dover plays it well. She doesn’t strip off (hey, we said sex, not nudity – the two are not inseparable), but instead is styled by Melissa Maxted-Henderson into outfits that mix soft femininity and fetishy goodness. This is fetish you can adopt into your wardrobe easily, be it a clear PVC cape, a top made of sheer netting, or a velvet skirt with a slit that reveals thigh highs when you walk.
The styling of Dover’s fiery hair by Candice Wyatt-Minter is at once sexy and schoolmistress-like, the makeup by Lesley Whitby designed to bring out her ice-blue eyes.
Between Marais’ photography and the gritty locales (Art Direction by Colin O’mara Davis) it’s a shoot well worthy of being Gaschette’s issue 2 showpiece.
