Just lying bare, Johanna is a mystery. A beautiful naked form with a frantic mane of hair and pale lips, her writhing poses inviting us to wonder what possessive spirit moves inside her. When made up – lips now deep red, body sheathed in the luxurious lace of a Lucian Matis dress, checking herself in the mirror of a luxury hotel bathroom – the mystery isn’t solved but rather deepened. Photographer Chad Muller knows that mystery isn’t about what happens: its power is drawn from what’s yet to happen. The greatest suspense comes from that which we don’t see. Click the thumbnails for full pictures: The expensive hotel room, the luxurious clothes, the unexplained transformation, leave us with more questions than answers and – like the video of the same – an impending sense of doom. Chad tells me he had The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo at the back if his mind, the part where Lisbeth Salander changes her looks along with her identity. In Chad’s shoot for Bambi Magazine the shots of Johanna dressed up are puzzle pieces that fall like the shadow of a question mark over the remaining images. But even without the mix of settings and styling, each individual image of Johanna has it’s own undeniable beauty.
