One of the questions circling Lana Del Rey is whether she was born or made. And if you count manufacturing to her image and her sound, her name even, does that lessen her credibility as a singer as well as her authenticity? Probably not when you consider that the machine of pop music transforms most artists before spitting them back out for public consumption. And if the public admire Del Rey’s music and sense of style, does it matter how she got there?
Style Singapore is celebrating Del Ray’s style in a very literal way. If she was engineered as as ‘Gangsta Nancy Sinatra’ then editorials like this one are helping us engineer our own style to match. And whether you have any desire to channel Lana Del Rey or not, you can’t help but be drawn in by the hair, makeup and styling of Wee Khim’s shoot regardless. Such is its power.
