He’s most famous for Afghan Girl, the iconic portrait of that young refugee with the intense green eyes that graced the cover of National Geographic in 1985. Now Steve McCurry has been confirmed as taking on an entirely different photography role: he’ll be shooting the 2013 Pirelli Calendar.
McCurry is a seasoned photojournalist with a mile-long list of accolades whose work needs no introduction. As someone accustomed to photographing conflict, humanity, and unguarded moments of truth, it’ll be interesting to see what fresh perspective he bring to a calendar more famous for its balancing of fashion and nudity that artistic truths. Expectations for McCurry to change direction and create something worthy of his reputation will be high – but we can only assume that a change in direction is what Pirelli are after for their 2013 calendar.
Details of the models who will appear in Pirelli’s 2013 calendar are still light on the ground. Though model-of-the-moment Karlie Kloss is rumoured as having been cast.
The 2013 Pirelli calendar is set for release in November of this year. Ahead of its release, you can see the 2012 calendar at that link and the 2011 calendar at that one.
