Photographer Maria Cristina Franco plays around with the childlike notions and lifestyle pieces of dolls. Their porcelain skin and single-expressioned eyes, their endless beauty frozen in a pose that will last them a lifetime… this is all bought to life in this charming fashion shoot. Franco creates a link between female fashion and the cultural and societal phenomenon that are these picture perfect dolls, that every woman has in some way or another had exposure time in their lives.
Apart from the fashion used in this shoot there is another large contributing factor to the appearance and illusion of a living doll, this lies of course in the hair and make-up styling (done by Sabina Pinsone). Pinsone has applied thick blue eyeshadow with eyelash extensions, giving the model (Maryana Hordiytyak) the look of big, gleaming, glossy eyes. Lipstick is done in a deep fuchsia, and by simply focusing its application at the centre of the lips only; Pinsone again creates a doll like, delicate pout. Hair is done in the playful and girly style of pigtails and plaits.
The styling and décor done throughout the shoot is consistent with a notion of toys and playthings, working with colourful and delicate fabrics, vintage designs and classic accessories to create and overall illusion of fashion lost in a doll house.
