Prayer is a longing of the soul

That Morfium Couture can continue to create such complete fantasy worlds from their collections should come as no surprise by now – and yet, with each one, we get drawn in anew. This time photographer Dusan Jaukovic and stylist Jelena Malesevic (Morfium’s designer) challenged themselves to connect mysticism and fashion in a series of images starring Jefimija Jokic.

Like the ancient Gods were keepers over more than one domain, Jokic’s role can’t be summed up in a single word. She’s an angel in black, a protector; an embodiment of pure emotion, a prayer in physical form. As Jaukovic tells it, a prayer “for others: for mankind past, present and future.”

In this world it’s not hard to imagine Jokic as a modern day – or futuristic – deity; or an oracle soaking up humankind’s multiple woes and joys and praying for the kindness of the gods. Jokic doesn’t overplay the role: the emotes it with a subdued kind of grace and beauty.

Morfium’s clothes work perfectly here, the metallic sequins and cutaway panels and sheers all making them well-equipped to serve the modern day girl, yet the overall styling – hairstyles by Bojan Nastasic that could be straight out of Game Of Thrones, complimented by romantic makeup – plays deeply to the clash of fantasy, past and future.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
