There’s a reason pop culture always gravitates back to the theme of running away. It’s about youth, about breaking free – it’s only partly to do with what the escapee is running away from, and more to do with what they’re running towards. They’re climbing fences and speeding down highways, down Springsteen’s Thunder Road towards Waits’ Burma Shave. They’re chasing a dream.
These Runaways are pulling out of their own deadbeat town, stylishly, in their shiny kicks and varsity jackets, their skinny pants and shades, the very epitome of casually rebellious youth. Micah Gianneli’s styling gets the vibe just right in the edge-of-town shots as photographed by Jesse Maricic.
