When religion trespasses the shores of the fashion world, you can expect the results to be anything but uncontroversial. Naughty nuns, spiritual decadence, plays upon forbiddance and innocence, chained in tradition or pure avant-garde, we have seen it all, as the fashion industry continues to cross lines and push boundaries. Photographer Elena Kuznetsova pursued the clerical inspiration by taking yet a different path.

With the accent falling hard on both Gothic beauty and fashion, Elena Kuznetsova’s vision explores the sacred grounds without it feeling in the least offensive. Quite the contrary, as the editorial modeled by Hoang Oanh sparks the inspiration and drags you right into the story. Hardly an angel and more of a temptress, she graces the land of the Dame Basilica, effortlessly blending the light into the darkness.

The ravishing portraits framed by white delicate wimples and black veils, are complemented by the flawless make-up created by Ngoan Nguyen. Featuring garments from Vietinio’s spring / summer 2013 collection entitled ‘The Virgin’, the editorial is a mix of symbolism and modern art.
