Horses are salt-soaked muscles with rising veins, iron and leather and pounding hooves, deep chests harnessed in surrender and restraint. At other times they’re the gentle sum of wide, quiet eyes and soft feathery manes, the nudge of a wet nose and the eagerness for company. It’s no wonder we can equate the noble creature equally to fetish or to femininity, as does the styling by Sky Lathuya Le in Kurt Salhofer’s beautiful shoot for issue 16 of Bambi Magazine.
Model Oktawia is presented in a kind of sternness of dress, with stiff peplums, patent leather pencil skirts, cinching leather obi-belts and combed wet hair. But add to that some delicate blouses and flowing black gowns, and soft expressions under soft smokey eyes (created by makeup artist Nadia Kaiser), and the balance becomes just right.
Strength and softness, the perfect contrast: and like her equine counterpart, Oxtawia has the ability to share in both.
