The contrasting perspectives of beauty

Perspectives of beauty will move and grow with both individual perception and the perception of society as a whole. To venture in the colloquialism of “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” creates a fairly accurate perspective of what photographer Luca Meneghel achieves with this photography shoot.

From the idea of a beauty portraiture Meneghel creates his own interpretation of what is beautiful within today’s society. Focusing on the simple aspects of the female grace he draws upon the skin, the natural falling of the hair and the classical accentuation of lips and eyes. At the base level at least – upon this traditional and unencumbered perspective of beauty he layers an element of modern evaluation. The presence of the glittering and dripping stage make-up reminds us that the beauty of today is changing, and as smooth as the transformation has been Meneghel shows us the contrast in the change in times and perspective.

This portraiture is named the “Virgin Mary”, again making reference to the ancient world being given a new pair of eyes to be interpreted according to modern understanding. Haloes of light sit behind the model, representing that purity now tainted by the world of today.

Born into the humble town of Franschhoek, South Africa it was little wonder that Chevaun Roux would find her flavour in life through good food, good wine and stylish apparel. After completing a Bacherlors Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics the world of freelance writing became the first choice in occupation, with no regrets and having never looked back. With a zest for anything with colour, vibrance and essence she found herself diving further into the world of fashion and design; from thifting vintage wedding dresses to pouring through new and modern jewelry pieces. This self anointed bohemian indentity believes in all the partisan revolutionary ideals of love, beauty and freedom, and when she isn’t writing or editing you can find her at the kitchens helm creating her latest milkshake masterpiece.
