Without struggle there is no progress. Marta Streng’s latest photoshoot, They Don’t Care About Us, is something of an artistic representation of the fact. At least, as far as I can interpret it. In the opening scenes the model is lying alone on a summit, holding a bunch of wildflowers close to her chest. Covered in a fine white silt, she’s like an object left forgotten – left to gather dust.
But if the start of the shoot is a little like a cold ending to a life, then the end of the shoot is the new beginning of one. Emerging naked from a cocoon of cobweby fibres, it’s a kind of rebirth. Who says we can’t start over again?
