There is a dark mystery to this fashion shoot designed by photographer Gunther Frans and stylist Tinneke Geenen. The story that it creates and envelopes is a natural and powerful take of the woman in the woods. This warrior-like stance in each photograph features the powerful combination of strong women and strong birds, who in the mystery and story of life protect and serve one another according to nature’s will.
The story is one that moves from light to dark, opening us into the world in the woods and ending with dramatic and dark poise. Hair and make-up (a collaborative work by Stefanie Grootaers, Evelien Van Tiggel and Anais De Locht) is wild and dramatic. With the feminine take on warrior paint that runs across the eyes and down the centre of the face, the effect created on each model, Stephanie Ballet and Lenaa Warmelink, is one where is transforms them into these out of world beings; dangerous and formidable in their beauty.
The presence of the owls and eagles within this shoot represents the natural beauty that is found so easily in nature. The beauty in this shoot reflects from one surface to the next – woman to beast – creating the link between the guardians in the woods and those they love to protect.
