The little black dress gone sporty

The ‘little black dress’ often finds itself a staple of the sexy or the elegant or the minimalist. It’s less often a piece you think of as lending itself well to sporty. But sports-chic can be anything, really; it’s in the accessorising, in the attitdue. It’s a state of mind.

This particular take on the LBD from Witchery is made from a sturdy bonded neoprene fabric that hugs the body beautifully. It’s sporty without compromising on femininity; the ruffled skirt flounced upwards with each step, revealing a contrasting white underside.

I happened to have these photos snapped of it during Milan fashion week, as the golden hour descended upon the cobbled streets of Brera. The shoes are my beloved Nike Sky Hi dunks, and the leather cuff is also by Witchery.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
