There seems to be some contention over whether Rihanna's Costume Institute Gala outfit was a near hit, or a very far miss. Her Dolce & Gabbana get-up took the accentuated shoulders trend to a new level; and while the elements of the ongoing tuxedo trend worked well for Rihanna, the overall look was a little overboard for our liking, especially when paired with her somewhat masculine hair style.

I can't say I'm overly keen on the colours, but I'll leave it up to your own tastes, dear reader, to determine whether or not you like Jessica Alba's look at the "Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion" Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Alba paired a jewel encrusted Jason Wu dress with a milkmaid braid hairstyle.

It takes a truly amazing body to pull off the cutaway clothing trend with such finesse. Miranda Kerr got it right at the 2009 MET Costume Institute Gala, wearing a revealing black dress from Jil Sander's fringe trend-infused Spring/Summer 2009 collection.

I don't think I've ever seen model Jessica Stam looking quite so gorgeous. Wearing a one-shouldered dress from Rodarte Autumn(Fall)/Winter 2009/2010, she was the queen of understated elegance at the 2009 MET Costume Institute Gala. The strength of Stam's look comes from her perfect choice of makeup and hairstyle; the classic 40s-style wave is the perfect hair trend on her, while the black kohl brings out her blue eyes beautifully.

Sparkling with her usual display of effortless elegance, Kate Moss attended the MET 2009 Costume Institute Gala wearing a gold lame Marc Jacobs dress. The dress featured both the one-shoulder and backless trends, while the matching turbanesque headpiece brought an element of the ethnic to the ensemble.

They featured on many a Spring/Summer 2009 runway; and criss-crossing laces as a 2009 shoe trend can make all the difference to an outfit, as model Miranda Kerr proves.

It takes an amazing set of legs to pull off a tiny white feathered dress and not look like a powder-puff. Luckily for Nicole Trunfio, she has just that. She wore 2009's feather trend to Bravo's A-List Awards earlier this month.

Or not. Because, to be honest with you, I'm not really sure if wearing ripped> boyfriend jeans and carrying a denim bag constitutes true double denim; but one thing I am sure of is that even a piece of denim clothing and a denim accessory paired together ensures horrific results.
And if Heidi Klum can't work it, what chance to mere mortals have?

It has to be said: fashionisers loved lingerie as outerwear, in fact it's been one of the most popular fashion trends we've written about of late. No, I don't think it sent you all running to your lingerie draw in a bid to parade down the street wearing those cute little nothings you picked up at Agent Provocateur and Coco de Mer; but that's not to say that we haven't spotted some lingerie as outerwear street style.

We know Victoria Beckham is a fan; and lately it would appear that Mischa Barton is too. Louis Vuitton's Spicy heels from their Spring/Summer 2009 collection are pretty much the item that epitomises 2009's tribal trend. As demonstrated by both Victoria and Mischa, these beaded and feathered shoes can quite literally spice up many an outfit.
Mischa was attending the 2009 FiFi Fragrance Awards at The Dorchester Hotel in London.
