I’m not sure how to describe the strange tasselled adornments on Candela Novembre’s vest, but – to my overactive imagination at least – they could equally be googly round eyes curtained by thick cartoon lashes, or black anemones waving their tendrils curiously across a white sea. It’s a top I’d venture to say is downright strange, yet Novembre’s elegant frame, mesh-panelled skirt and dainty black…

Milan fashion week coverage 2014
When two street style sweethearts get into one frame during fashion week, there’s bound to be double the heels, double the short hemlines, and double the attitude. Amina Muaddi wore gladiator heels and an army-esque ensemble to Denni Elias’ pure white, structured dress.
Yes, sporty is still happening. Yes, girls are embracing it because – let’s face it – we’re reluctant to let go of the fortuitous circumstance that sneakers are not only acceptable but cool. They’re comfortable, OK? And so, during Milan men’s week, various sporty accessories made their way into the street style rounds. From sun visors to sweat bands to sneakers: at the gallery are…
Giotto Calendoli has a way of balancing timelessness with pure photo opportunity. On the street in Milan during men’s week, this outfit of a plain white tee and rolled-up black pants was elevated to new levels of dapperness by way of a straw boater and neckerchief.
In a bid to milk every drop out of the seemingly never-ending sportswear obsession, fashion has pilfered from every sport possible. Baseball has not been exempt. This street style look featured a Red Sox baseball jersey casually yet somehow quite neatly paired with white ripped jeans and red lipstick.
A see through dress need not be a completely daunting prospect, even if you choose not to wear a full slip underneath. As Patricia Manfield demonstrated in Milan, it can look both elegant and yet sensual when paired with a slip-skirt or pair of tap pants underneath.
Making some ripped boyfriend jeans and an oversized faded tee look cool comes down to the wearer. There must be attitude, buckets of it, and maybe even a really covetable pout. That’s exactly what was going on here. And it worked.
Occasionally lace animal-ear headbands – those whimsical novelties once reserved for costume parties – still find their way onto the street. During the Milan menswear shows it was blogger Linda Tol who wore this Maison Michel pair of cat ears, wisely keeping the rest of her outfit simple and soft.
Chevron candy stripes, mary-jane heels and a tie-up cropped shirt – in combination – run the risk of being saccharine. Add in a studded clutch and tough aviator sunglasses, however, and the sweetness is counteracted by just enough spice.
The more ingrained in fashion sporty chic has become, the more things have become acceptable accompaniments to sneakers. With the slip dress one of fashion’s latest obsessions, it was only destined to become one of those accepted things. But who would have thought that a feminine pink slip and heavy black Nikes could look so cool together?
Here’s a reality that may or may not be unfortunate, depending on your point of view (and your figure type). The delicate, bias-cut, silky slip dress is ethereally phenomenal on the right frame. Yes, it looks best when it skims hip bones and dips across serrated shoulder blades, and for those of us not blessed with those things we just have to accept that it…
This girl: riding a bike in platforms and hot pants. And it’s a serious bike too, none of that vintage cutesy stuff. File it under things you wish you’d see more often even though you know they’re wildly impractical.
One of the best things about the menswear fashion weeks is the excuse for women to really – really – rock a menswear outfit and mean it. Not that it can’t be done any time; but the spirit of the thing gives added inspiration and added cause. During this Milan men’s fashion week the trend of masculine tailoring for women took shape in everything from…
Is the tide turning away from only tall, slender boys? It seemed like more than ever did Milan men’s fashion week fill the streets with strong arms and fit, toned torsos. Is anyone complaining? I think not. At the gallery, 10 fit, hot male models off duty in Milan. Because we can.
