I'm a make-up artist, and have great passion for what I do. I have never had formal training, instead I used to go through my mum's fashion magazines and try and copy the looks I liked. I then started doing my friends' make up before going out, and it sort of grew from there. I used to be a model and learnt a lot of tips and tricks from other artists on the job. Now, working at Mecca Cosmetica as a make up artist, and also doing freelance, I have a solid and loyal client base who regularly come to me for advice. My freelance work includes fashion and weddings/school formals. I aspire to work overseas with the best in my field on the international fashion scene

Music

my god, music is such a big part of who I am, I would absolutely DIE without it and i think besides the wheel and electricity, the iPod was probably the greatest invention known to man. I'm a real Indie kid at heart, grew up listening to Britpop and the likes of Oasis (greatest band on earth) Kula Shaker, The verve and Pulp. I was definately influenced by the music my parents listen to, mum's a huge Madonna and Kate Bush fan (My name is a product of mum's obsession with Kate Bush), also everything but the girl. Being a teenage girl, you really can't escape pop, so the Spice Girls became 'my band', closely followed by Bros and Take That (Michael Jackson's Bad was also a big one in my tape player). I always loved the radio too, I always sat listening to the top 40 with a blank tape and recorded the songs I liked, I would spend hours a week doing this, then going back through the tape to record silence over any bits that had talking. I got quite good at it at one stage, even doing it so the songs would blur together, almost as if they were mixed or something. Once I started listening to those Now compilations, I really started liking rnb and hip hop, my greatest purchase which I've had for about 15 years is an album called "Mother of All Swing II" with classics from Seal, Adina Howard, Erykah Badu etc. Then I got totally obsessed with a little hit by the name of "you're not alone" by Olive. My first exposure to dance music was when I used to go every week to the skating rink at my local sports centre. They would have a free (not cost, but like freestyle) session with tunes from Strike, Baby D and 2 unlimited (haha). It was from here I scratched the surface a bit more and discovered trance. Again, an absolute stand out album is the 1999 release of Ministry of Sound Clubbers Guide to Trance, a SACRED collection complete with a big TUNE sign to hold up in a club when a Dj plays said TUNE. fantastic. (I still have the tune sign too). Then came drum 'n' bass. As soon as i heard Goldie's Inner City Life, I was hooked. Still am.
Of course people you meet always influence your taste as well. Going out with a DJ for a while really got me into breaks, house and also the more technical side of music production and sampling etc. It was a great experience for me and has definately placed house way up on the top of the list when it comes to choosing something to listen to on the way to work, get me motivated or chill out or go spastic to. I also was with a guy who was obsessed with Faithless, so i now love them too.
I soon discovered latin music when i studied spanish at school, which not only helped me to learn the language but was an absolute pleasure to listen to. After a small obsession with Ricky Martin, I have widened my spectrum a bit to Ruben Blades, Juan Luis Guerra and Mana.
So just as your tastebuds mature, so does your taste in music. i've now started to go back and re-discover music i used to love, as well as having a new appreciation for jazz (thank you Michael Buble haha... also John Coltrane is awesome), funk and even classical music thanks to playing the recorder from very young (doesn't everyone?! what a fine instrument that is) violin from the age of 12 and a short stint with the basoon, to movie scores like Pride and Prejudice!
well that is a BRIEF history of my musical tastes, can't wait to discover more new music in the future!!!
