With a return to British ownership and the appointment of a new creative director, it’s no surprise that a 150 year-old label would choose to go back to its roots. That’s what Aquascutum did for autumn / fall 2011, with Joanna Sykes at the helm.
At their showroom during Milan fashion week it became clear that here were no bold risks here; just pieces of refined simplicity that would serve as the ideal building blocks for the sophisticated male wardrobe. Silhouettes are long and lean; tailoring immaculate and rooted in Savile Row bespoke techniques. But that doesn’t mean Sykes’ work isn’t directional, with the trench coat updated to patent leather, quirky details, and playful ‘British Icon’ mascots taking shape on the collection’s accessories.
