Balmain men’s A/W ’11: plays to their strong hand

Having been a large part of next season’s punk trend you might think that Balmain would transition the look to their fall 2011 men’s offering. Not so. Instead the label has gone the other way, playing to their ability to be amongst the best fashion houses to interpret the men’s military fashion trend, a good two seasons after most everyone else has moved on from it.

Or at least moved on from it as a whole. While we’ve been privy to plenty of military, particularly aviator, influenced during the recent men’s weeks showings, few labels of note have gone the whole way opting instead to play to motifs such as aviator jackets and shearling lining. While Balmain has such motifs too (a fur collar on a leather bomber is particularly eye catching) they’ve also gone for the full military look: striped trousers, pea coats, toggle coats, piped blazers and all.
