Ermenegildo Zegna’s long hot summer

From colour to cloth and to the shore pebbles that made up the catwalk, it is perhaps the word soft that best summarises Ermenegildo Zegna’s spring 2012 offering. And it’s a welcome softness, as through cloth and colour Ermenegildo Zegna have not only acknowledged and accommodated for just how murderous it can be to wear the modern men’s suit during high-summer, but they’ve done so without ever having departed from the essence of classic tailoring.

That classic tailoring comes in the guise of clean lines; something that seems in stark contrast to the textured flair that Milan has largely played host to so far. Whether crafting the clean cut lines of a suit or a weekend piece, Ermenegildo Zegna have drawn the inspiration from the sand and surf. The blues are that of a pale sky, prints appear sun bleached as if the wearer has spent many an afternoon basking in the summer’s sun.

All of it comes together for a collection that sees Ermenegildo Zegna leave us dreaming of the long hot summer ahead.
