It’s often the case that collections that take to the catwalks of consumer focussed fashion weeks can come off feeling a little flat with a collection’s better pieces sometimes put aside in a bid to show a tighter range that appeals to everybody. Thus themes and statements go by the wayside. Australian fashion label Flannel made no such mistake with their autumn / winter 2011 showing, offering up a collection that paired suede with lace and brought the ‘loungerie’ theme of spring 2011 to an earlier season.
Yet Flannel, designed by Kristy Lawrence, brought loungerie to an earlier in a paired down way, the suede often muting the overt femininity of some pieces. That’s not a necessary styling choice for a spring collection, but for an autumn / winter collection it adds an edge of the practical (winter practicality that was missing from statement sheers). If suede and lace aren’t to your liking, look instead to the collection’s tail hemmed, bowed shirt; modelled by Simone Kerr in the latter part of the showing it wafted down the catwalk with an obvious texture and in a beautiful champagne colour.
