Riccardo Tisci is living proof that Haute Couture doesn’t have to be grandiose or eccentric or shocking in order to make a statement.
For his latest couture collection for Givenchy it’s all about angelic shades of white wrought with the kind of detail that most of us can’t begin to dream up, let alone to execute. Detail like intricate lacework, crystals, beads, and hand-cut silk paillettes, not to mention white feathers that might have been plucked straight from an angel’s wings.
Tisci’s pieces follow the lines of the body like heavenly gloves; but for all the purity of the colours there’s always that underlying sense of Gothicness that perhaps comes down to the utter elaborateness of it all… As if under every white cascade of sheer tulle and every gold thread is lurking a little shadow of darkness. And it’s that particular supernatural quality, as well as the craftsmanship, that keeps Tisci’s collections for Givenchy so mysterious and captivating.
