The strength of Jaeger’s autumn 2011 collection comes down to two things: the use of colour-blocking in beautiful, bold autumn tones, and the elegance of the leather accessories. Take, for instance, a leather glove that morphs at the wrist into a kind of wool felt gauntlet, to then be buckled in by contrasting leather straps. I’ve been on a hunt for gloves lately, and I can say from first hand experience such a classic yet unique pair of gloves is an elusive thing. The belts and bags are similarly simple and classic, yet impacting – from slender envelope purses to skinny belts in rich pops of colour.
Meanwhile the clothes at Jaeger’s London fashion week show aren’t making many statements, other than that the Jaeger woman is one who invests wisely in classic, long wearing pieces that work in quality and act as the building blocks of a strong fall wardrobe. The show is on the whole unfussy – from the sparse and androgynous makeup to the neat ponytails. While many are turning away from the minimalist tendencies of late, Jaeger are sticking to their strength, and for that wisely investing woman that’s a big plus.
