When Leona Edmiston’s segment started at LMFF (Melbourne fashion festival) last night, the mood changed from rock chic to Helmut Newton-inspired wealthy widow. Black lace veils, rosary beads, and dark sunglasses made the models older, albeit darkly glamorous as they slinked along to Portishead’s Glory Box in black backseamed stockings.
The key thing to note here is styling. The florals could easily transcend from wake to winter garden party through a subtle shift in accessorising. Take one of Edmiston’s flowery numbers and add a felt hat, some thick tights in autumnal colours, and a pair of boots and the look becomes perfectly country-chic (a look we expect to see move beyond autumn 2011 and into 2012).
The other worthwhile investment piece here was a full-length black cowl-neck dress, made all the more sensual on the sex-bomb figure of Tiah Eckhardt, though cut in such a way that would flatter almost any figure.
