Lisa Maree: crochet bikini advantage

With the front row seats removed and vines hanging from ceiling the scene was set for the debut of Lisa Maree’s 2011 swimwear and lifestyle ‘Under My Skin‘ collection. Inspired by ‘primal urges’ and interpreted through oversized snake prints, the strength of Lisa Maree’s collection actually lay elsewhere in pieces that married spring’s crochet clothing trend with 2011’s swimwear trends thus setting the collection apart with a strong take on crochet bikinis.

Swimwear, at a fashion level as opposed to a sport one, is hard to revolutionise. Designers can create pieces with more cloth or less cloth, but revolutionising the overall cuts of one-pieces and bikinis is not an easy design brief to fill. Hence Lisa Maree‘s use of crochet as the statement element for select pieces in her spring 2011 collection helps give it a point if difference. Crochet is where it’s at in women’s fashion, and Lisa Maree uses the weave well, often as a sole detail but also sometimes as the base for itty bitty two-pieces whose real flair is their ruffles. Crochet swimwear is, of course, nothing new but the intricate lattice of the weave can work to divert the viewer’s eyes away from all else, making it a great style for those concerned about masking lumps, bumps and any other imperfections they may feel they have.
