Nautica: casuals inspired by Michigan

Either presentations run quite differently at New York fashion week in comparison to those of their European counterparts, or Nautica can pull a crowd. I’ll wager it’s a mixture of both.

In a packed event space Nautica yesterday unveiled 25 styled looks from their fall 2011 offering. Fittingly relaxed, Nautica are to release a collection for the season that has been inspired by the Sleeping Bear Dunes region of Lake Michigan. Hence the the necessary base colour palette of navy, the use of sand tonality, and the inclusion of International Orange, inspired by the US Coast Guard I’m told, as the collection’s statement colour.

Elsewhere winter whites, including a cable kit (a style we’re also expecting from Tom Ford for the season) and a double breasted knit jacket adorned with a shawl collar, provide the collection with a touch of the elegance that Italian gents often have in their winter wardrobe. Admittedly, though, it’s somewhat less refined for these are styled on deck whites and all the tailoring remains very casual.
