Opening Ceremony’s pre-fall 2012 collection sets out on a course somewhere between demurely vintage and hipster chic, though along the way it’s not a singularly straightforward journey. There’s a dress made out of tassels, dripping with them in a flapper-esque moment – albeit a fairly casual one. There’s some very relaxed shirt dresses and tribal prints, satiny cigarette pants, flouncy skirts and tailored shorts. A particularly cool look finds itself twisting to a ’50s rock rhythm in a sweater, leather jacket, and flat patent shoes. Here, the length of the full cut skirt keeps things decidedly modern.
There’s nothing all that revolutionary to Opening Ceremony’s pre-fall offering, but there is a subtle vintage hint of the early half of the 21st century running through every outfit, often in some way you can barely place your finger on. At their best they’re the kind of easy pieces fans of the brand will not think twice about buying.
