As time has progressed, so too has Zac Posen; a clear distinction solidifying between his eponymous line and his Z Spoke range. As the latter has come to personify everything youthfully sophisticated about Posen’s designs, so has the former become all about womanly elegance.
Posen isn’t one to hold back on the in-between seasons, be it resort or pre-fall, and his collections typically include evening gowns that are made to wow. For pre-Fall 2012 one of Posen’s favoured silhouettes – the fishtail gown – makes an appearance in a variety of forms. Some are experimentations with layerings of raw-edged silk; some play on textures like velvet or embroidered taffeta; others flair out as bushy tulle or silken pleats. One gown slinks into the mix like a panther in a jungle: understated black velvet, strapless, with surprise sheer panels flaring out as part of the gentle fishtail.
When he’s not churning out gowns that Cindarella would die for, Zac Posen is tailoring daywear that also marries vintage sophistication with modern cuts. For pre-Fall 2012 that means furs, fur-trims, skirt suits and waist-focused silhouettes that draw reference to the elegance of the 1950s.
