It’s only day two of Milan fashion week and yet the Italian world view on fall 2012 fashion: black with accents of bold colours. Gucci did it with a masculine edge, and Alberta Ferretti has followed up with a far more delicate one.
Queue the printing presses – awful headlines such “black is back” and “black is the new black” are sure to be plentiful.
Actually, I should back track a bit. Gucci’s fall 2012 collection does indeed have a masculine edge, but Alberta Ferretti doesn’t have a wholly feminine one. While the collection is founded in the soft dresses one expects of the designer, there are those pieces which lack the delicate femininity so obvious within those that utilise sheer elements. These latter pieces present a harder image, but not a masculine one. They are at once familiar and yet futuristic, seemingly extending the block and lined motifs you can find within Ferretti’s spring 2012 collection into something darker, something a little noir-futurism.
