Alibellus’ Titi Kwan had visions of night creatures, gliding between the iconic clubs of Paris. That accounted for the dark colour palette, the gravity-defying 80s punk rock hair, and the overall edgy feel of the whole Paris fashion week (PFW) show. But to use the word dark seems an injustice: vampiric perhaps, pitch blacks broken by the same rich burgundy wine colour that painted the eyes of the models, streaks of purple across their pale faces.
The models avoided any disasters that could have been caused by their clunky geta-style shoes, shoes that lack commercial practicality but made for an interesting silhouette on the runway. Other pieces were, in spite of their glam-goth styling, more subtle twists on conventional styles, largely a result of Kwan’s fabrications: plastic covered silk, metallic threaded tulle, and unique uses of quilting brought the luxurious and the alternative into harmony.
