Andrea Karg believes in cashmere for all seasons. What started as a collection of 15 pullovers 20 years ago has grown into a global brand; and at the Grand Palais today during Paris fashion week (PFW) she turned her expertise in soft fabrics into an homage to the female sex.
If the concept of a cashmere-centric brand breeds the expectation of a safe and casual collection filled with uninspired sweaters, think again: Karg’s spring / summer 2013 collection for Allude was much more than that. Soft cashmere combined with strong lines, the sculptural contrasted the fluid, and dressy elements were grounded by sporty ones.
Blue was a key colour in the collection: “Not just blue like the ocean to represent the element of water, but blue like the universe with its unlimited space – as unlimited as the female being,” said Karg.
Karg’s greatest feat was using the luxuriousness of cashmere to create a casual, easy coolness. Who’d have thought that sporty mesh and racing checks would look so good in cashmere?
