Ashish: a little bit of India

Ashish is one designer that brings mischief, creativity and a hint of controversy to the catwalk every season. His fall / winter 2012 collection saw no bounds in colour, his signature embellishments or over-sized prints for that matter. The range was a little bit of India on speed coming down the London fashion week runway; music was a combination of yoga chants and mantras. Close your eyes and you might levitate out your seat, however, if you remain in your chair you will see the over-jewelled traditional nose chain that hooks on to your hair, being used here as a common accessory in most looks.

Still seated? Good. So we now have Buddha heads woven onto knitwear and over sized affirmations sequined on to certain pieces, “Sweet Om” “Relax” and “Say NO to drugs” with a theme of peace and tranquility we can’t help but think is Ashish trying to sell something more than fashion? Is he broadcasting more than just the trends for next season, or is he using his quirky designs in Hindi scripture scarves and skirts to create a peace movement… which ever the case may be, the only movement that didn’t take place were the eyes hooked on to each model coming down the runway.
