For Max and Lubov Azria, the inspiration for their latest pre-fall 2013 collection came all the way from the beautiful city of Istanbul, where the cobblestone streets seem to have whispered long-forgotten stories that ended up charming the couple for good. It was the same old stories that later translated into an utterly romantic and soft lineup for BCBG Max Azria, for which femininity and history, joined forces with a subtle note of athleticism.
The essence of the glamorous twenties, thirties, and forties was also easily spotted in the delicate alignment of garments that still managed to look modern despite the series of influences that led us back decades ago. Playful georgette ruffles embellished the striking mid-length silhouettes, while delicate sheer inserts infused the numbers with an elusive sense of seduction.
The light-chiffon pieces were complemented by a gentle color palette that featured the timeless black and white, alongside a selection of warmer earthy tones, topped by bold pops of cobalt, yellow and coral. It was the motorcycle leather jackets that read modern and edgy, contrasting in unexpected ways with the flared pants and flouncy miniskirts. In the end, Max and Lubov Azria managed to capture Istanbul’s romanticism through a flawless vision on the trans-seasonal wardrobe, and women will know to appreciate that.
