Boat shoes and nautical colours were always going to be at home on a wooden-decked clipper, as they were at Boomerang’s spring / summer 2013 runway show. Taking Stockholm fashion week (SFW) to the seas, literally and figuratively, the brand presented a collection that subtly breathed life into vintage-inspired essentials.
The collection takes the title Freedom: fitting for the open air, the notion of sailing away from it all, and for the light spring pieces that don’t restrict the body or one’s movement. The “simplicity found in your old favourite vintage garments” is given a modern reworking. You can feel the Great Gatsby references more so than you can see them; particularly in the women’s silk pyjamas and breezy men’s tailoring. Other pieces are inspired by vintage denim.
With clean colours and simple shapes bolstered by prints and accessories, Boomerang brought a dose of casual elegance to both the men’s and women’s parts of their collection.
